The Colwyn Place Plan was commissioned in 2019, it covers the local communities of Rhos on Sea, Colwyn Bay and Old Colwyn. Place Plans were introduced by the Welsh Government to encourage more community engagement in local planning decision making. Place plans allow local knowledge and detail to be added to the Local Development Plan by local communities. A Place plan is a community led and produced plan that looks at the area people live in and makes a plan to show how they would like to see it evolve and change and improve for the better.
Over the last 12 months Planning Aid Wales have been supported by the Bay of Colwyn Town Council to run public engagement events to harvest the wealth of local knowledge held by those who live in, work and visit Colwyn Bay. Public events were held in Colwyn Heights, Rhos on Sea, Colwyn Bay and Old Colwyn, these were open events for anyone to attend and voice their feelings about the past, present and future of their local community. Their local knowledge and feelings were recorded and used to produce the Place Plan. Key stakeholders including local business, local historians and community groups were invited along to provide their unique input to the place plan.
