It was noted that legal action was in course re pressure exerted upon councillors in Wrexham who feel that the Council is exerting undue pressure on them to support development plans. Similar pressures are in place from Conwy C.C. who may be mis-interpreting the word ‘interest’ in their Councillors’ Code of Conduct.
Mark Sillitoe would soon be meeting with the County Council officer responsible for strategic planning.
Proposed ‘Active Travel’ will not help new development with steep, narrow lanes far from town centre..
Need to get press involved.
Land is impervious boulder clay which will exacerbate flooding. Have hydrological test been conducted? It is thought that radon gas could be present in the clay.
Marine and ecological pollution probable.
Affordable needs definition. Affordable for whom?
Existing land owned by Council with planning permission on land at Ty Mawr, but unused for 30 years. Why?
Have the Fire service been involved in Planning Permission?
Involve local politicians. (Darren Millar is on board)
Were Section 106 agreements monies being used to best economical effect?
Effect on essential services to be assessed. Shortage of doctors and many were reluctant to work here. Schools already oversubscribed.
Water pressure already low in some dwellings above proposed development.
Brown field sites unused for decades where essential services are accessible. Developers are reluctant to use them and the Council do not monitor them or exert pressure to build. Long term empty houses and shops not being used. Planning devolved to the Welsh Government who have not implemented statutory obligation to monitor brown field sites. Where England has, and it is working there.
Make use of farmer’s requirement to use up to 20% of their land for trees when as a country we are obliged to import over half our food and still build on agricultural land.
It was wondered if the offer of £25,000p for land on the golf course had been accepted. Golf Club to be contacted.
There are many empty shops with empty rooms over them in our area and Cheryl had been pressurising the Council to act. Old Market Hall, Police H.Q. to become vacant, empty government buildings etc. etc.
It is thought that many people are unaware of the development. Can we organise letter drops to inform those without computers? If so, wording must be well thought out.

In view of the lack of public conveniences, owners of commercial premises are offered payment to allow the public to use their toilets; i.e. cafes, pubs etc. by ‘Flush’. Contact Council.
(12) Unregistered Historic Sites:
Please consider such sites of local interest which are not currently known. Buildings of architectural interest, notable people, unusual terrace rows, craftsmanship employed, special events, etc. One possible the old forge at Pen y Bryn?

Cllr. Gail informed us that the Christmas Fair was to go ahead but we need to know of any other planned events so there is no clashing.
(c) Closure Fairy Glen:
Fairy Glen closed after severe flooding and landslides (see (5) above and imagine). Assembly grants are available for storm damage. It will be a big job.
(d) Litter Bins:
It was reported that in order to economise 25% of public refuse bins are to be removed. This will add to the domestic refuse disposal problems of larger families and could increase fly tipping. A member wondered if the £6000.000p spent on plastic turf at Colwyn Bay was cost efficient when rates are expected once more to rise by nearly 10%?
(14) Meeting Closed:
There being no other business meeting closed at 8.34pm., next meeting 2.4.24. same venue.
